RS1 Usage Scenarios
Sailing Schools – Race training usually has the instructor being in the committee
boat, where they start the races and then observes students with binoculars. Proposed
solution is to anchor a dinghy with RS1 at the committee boat end of the line, and
have instructor start races with remote. Then he can move amongst the fleet in a
small powerboat and provide coaching tips from up close observations.
Regattas/Club Racing – Most clubs rely on volunteers to man committee boat and finding
volunteers is difficult leaving race committee shorthanded or with inexperienced
crew. This lack of experienced staff on committee boat leads to incorrect starting
sequences or everyone watching the stop watch and not the line, resulting in controversial
starts. Proposed solution is to have RS1 mounted on committee boat, allowing
race committee to monitor the fleet.
Casual Club Racing – Weekend fun races and mid week beer can racing where racers
can take their own times or finish order. A race committee is nice to have, but
having someone volunteer usually means one less boat on the course. Proposed solution
is to anchor a dinghy with a RS1 to act as committee boat. A racer starts sequence
with remote and boats take their own times/positions as they finish.
